Upon arrival, a Costa Rica Adventure Vacation van and Spanish-speaking driver will be waiting to take you on a 3 -hour drive to Arenal. Late afternoon visit to the Hidalgo Family Hot Springs. We first met the Hidalgo Family in 2000 when we were looking for an alternative to the mass tourism overcrowded hot springs in Arenal. At that time they were reluctant to open up their family farm to visitors. Finally they agreed to try it by appointment only. They found, perhaps to their surprise, that they enjoyed having foreign guests on this basis and have now added changing rooms and a restaurant. Although they no longer provide the private experience once did, the Hidalgo Family Hot springs is still not nearly as crowded as others in Arenal. The springs consist of five free-flowing pools set in a natural river gorge. Water temperatures range from 100F (38C) to 109F (43C) depending on the pool. A Costa Rican home-style meal in the restaurant, modeled after the first house that Don Manuel and Doa Hortemida Hidalgo built when they settled on the farm in 1940, is a highlight of the visit. The project was designed to blend with the natural environment, leaving the forest virtually intact. The trails, covering a distance of about 3.1 km, are right inside the forest. Feb. 10, 2006. "Hidalgo Resort at La Fortuna was the best place to relax."
Dear Nadya: Congratulations! Your itinerary worked superbly and everything went to plan. The guide was good; Gerardo was an excellent and careful driver, and the Hidalgo Resort (hot springs) at La Fortuna was the best possible place to relax and so much preferable to the Tabacon hot springs. Your associates, Sun Tours, were puctual and could not have done a better job. We were delighted with the boat trip across the lake and we compliment Miguel on the difficult drive to Monteverde. We enjoyed staying at Monteverde Lodge and the nature walk the next morning, and Gerardo got us to the boat at Caldera in good time. Pura Vida!!
