San Jose is the capital of Costa Rica and its largest city. With roughly 342,977 citizens, this city is full of culture and things to do. Visiting museums, landscaped parks, art galleries, and neat cafes are fun daytime activities.
Despite the busy streets, San Jose still harbors a happy, small-town feel and is a good example of how the average urban Latin population lives. It is the country's major transportation corridor and many journeys across the country usually involve passing through the capital of Costa Rica.
Although Costa Rica is better known for the beaches and rainforests, San Jose offers many places to eat, dance, and spend time socializing. There are numerous bars around San Jose, with some major nightlife centers. El Pueblo is a mix of more than 50 bars, clubs, restaurants, art galleries and shops that cater to many tourists. This lively spot is in walking distance to several Costa Rica hotels and resorts. Tourists enjoy the beautifully lined cobblestone streets, and the all parties that go on until dawn. Near the University of Costa Rica (Universidad de Costa Rica), in San Pedro there is a street known as Calle de la Amargura. It has a wide selection of bars, restaurants and discos with lower prices than other areas since it is used to catering to the university students of the Universidad de Costa Rica. Other nightlife spots include the neighbourhoods around Heredia, and the canton of Escazu and Santa Ana.
Whatever your interest, the capital of Costa Rica, San Jose will offer a whole other kind of adventure.
