Costa Rica Whitewater Rafting

White Glove Service...White Water Adventure™ - This service is designed for discerning adventurers who want to avoid the wasted time of large groups and appreciate personalized service and distinguished cuisine. The White Glove Service costs a bit more than conventional rafting, but allows you to avoid wasting precious vacation time in traffic jams and line-ups.

Your trip will have no more than 18 paddlers (3 rafts), as opposed to as many as 150 participants on conventional trips. The small number of participants means that the whole process of fitting life jackets and helmets is much faster and more personalized than is possible with larger groups. Some refer to it as, Guided not herded. Our handpicked and highly-trained guides hold safety at the highest priority and will make sure that your adventure leaves you with unforgettable, positive memories. Aside from the outstanding service, meals, snacks and beverages, you will also receive complementary (sold for $35 on conventional trips).

Early morning pick-up at your hotel by your River Guide with no more than one other stop en route to a deluxe Costa Rican breakfast on the way to the river. Upon arrival at the put-in, your professional guides will give an orientation and safety talk. You will then proceed down river on continuous Class III-IV rapids.

As you are swept down the Pacuare Gorge by the currents, soak in the natural beauty of the primary and secondary rainforests surrounding you. Water level permitting, a guide will lead you on a hike up one of the many creeks that spill into the Pacuare. Upon your return to the riverbank, you will find a gourmet lunch prepared by your guides.

Float and paddle downriver to the take-out in the Caribbean town of Siquirres. Here, towels and a victory cocktail await. Afterward drive with a Spanish-speaking driver for about an hour to the Cano Blanco dock to meet your boat for the trip to Tortuga Lodge (1-2 hour boat ride). After breakfast at the Lodge, depart with a local guide for a 3-hour boat tour into Tortuguero National Park. Originally intended to protect a major nesting beach of the Atlantic Green Sea Turtle, the Park now protects 51,870 acres, one of the last large areas of tropical rainforest in Central America.

Eleven habitats are found in the park. Three species of monkeys (Spider, Howler and White-faced), Three-toed Sloths and river otters are frequently seen along the natural inland waterways and canals. Caiman, iguanas, river turtles, Basilisk Lizards and Poison Dart Frogs (Dendrobates) inhabit the area, along with more than 320 species of birds including all six species of Kingfishers found in the new world, three species of toucans, eight species of parrots and other neotropical species such as the Slaty-tailed trogon, White-collared Manakin, Purple-throated Fruitcrow and White-fronted Nunbird and many more species which you will have the opportunity to observe during this morning boat ride.

After lunch at the Lodge, a local guide will take you to the village of Tortuguero. Visit the Park headquarters, the general goods store and walk streets lined with colorful afro-Caribbean homes.

Visit the Atlantic Green Sea Turtle Museum founded by the Caribbean Conservation Corporation (CCC). The late Dr. Archie Carr began to study and tag the thousands of Atlantic Green Sea Turtles that every year from June to October come to Tortuguero Beach to lay their eggs. The study has continued without fail ever since, under the auspices of the CCC, the longest running continuous study of its kind in the world, and it has had a profound effect on the community of Tortuguero.Overnight at Tortuga Lodge.

"The food was the best I had in Costa Rica."
Finally getting around to answering your email. We had a wonderful time at the Tortuga Lodge. I can't say enough good about the service and facility we visited. The whole experience was excellent -- right down to the wild, stormy July nights we spent there. I loved it and look forward to coming back. Your staff was friendly, efficient, helpful. The food was the best I had in Costa Rica. The presentation of your food was lovely -- thank you to your chef. The waiters/waitresses were so pleasant and patient with us. We all enjoyed your housekeeping staff -- they very patiently tried to help us with our faltering Spanish and allowed us to practice on them.

The boat tour of the canals with Nardo (Gerardo) was so very interesting and he obviously has a great knowledge and love of your wildlife. I recommend a Costa Rica Expedition to everyone I can when I recount our wonderful trip this past July. All of us had a super day rafting -- but my kids, in particular, enjoyed it, as they hadn't been rafting before. Alejandro, the rafting guide, was excellent and I really appreciated how generously he shared his wealth of knowledge.
