Guanacaste is an adventure vacationer’s paradise. The inland of this province of Costa Rica draws visitors to its spectacular rainforest, volcanoes, mountains, valleys, horseback riding, bird watching, and upscale accommodations.
A series of Costa Rica volcanoes create Guanacaste’s eastern border. They reach out and join the Cordillera de Guanacaste and Cordillera de Tilaran mountain ranges which are easily accessible for hikers and create a spectacular view.
Hikers love this area not only because of the breathtaking view, but the densely lush forest houses an array of exotic plant and wildlife. Guanacaste is home to Costa Rica’s national tree, not surprisingly, called the “Guanacaste tree”. You will get a chance to see endangered animals like jaguars and tamirs, the mystical Rincon de la Vieja Volcano area, and vast, culture-rich countryside.
Many rivers flow down from the mountains, nurturing the province before being drained by the Rio Tempisque and emptying itself into the Golfo de Nicoya.
The province is most easily accessed by flying into the Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia. The opening of this national airport is a main reason for the growing popularity of this area. After arriving at the airport, even the drive to Guanacaste will leave you in awe!
