Overview
Start this trip out with a splash with the whitewater adventure of a lifetime, enjoying the perks of our “White Glove Service”. The Next day, take a charter plane to Tortuguero, where you will enjoy the amazing wildlife and diverse ecosystems of Tortuguero National Park. Witness the rare sight of green sea turtles nesting on the beach. Visit the Caribbean Conservation Corporation; then take a tour through the unique village of Tortuguero. Kayak through the creeks of the National Park before taking off to the Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica, where you will stay for the remainder of your trip, relaxing and enjoying everything the beaches have to offer.

Day 1 Arrival San Jose
No Meals
Arrive at Juan Santamaria International Airport. After passing through Immigration, one of our representatives will greet you at the airport. Look for a sign that has your unique identifier along with your name. After you submit your booking request you will receive a full itinerary along with in-country descriptions, including all airport and hotel transfer instructions included in your proposal. He or she will take you to your hotel.

White Glove Service...White Water Adventure™
Soak up the natural beauty of the pristine Pacuare Canyon in between exhilarating Class III-IV rapids. On this trip you are the special guest of the River Guides, who will share with you the history of the Pacuare and the culture of the people of the mountainous Turrialba region. Your guides – turned white-gloved waiters - will also treat you to a gourmet riverbank lunch in their outdoor "river restaurant." The Connoisseur Rafting one-day tour runs year-round. (Minimum age 12 years.)
ITINERARY
Early morning pick-up by your River Guide at your hotel in San Jose. There will be no more than one other stop en route to a deluxe Costa Rican breakfast on the way to the river. Upon arrival at the put-in, your professional guides will give an orientation and safety talk. You will then proceed down river on continuous Class III-IV rapids.
As you are swept down the Pacuare Gorge by the currents, soak in the natural beauty of the primary and secondary rainforests surrounding you. Water level permitting, a guide will lead you on a hike up one of the many creeks that spill into the Pacuare.
Upon your return to the riverbank, you will find a gourmet lunch prepared by your guides turned white-gloved waiters.
Float and paddle downriver to the take-out in the Caribbean town of Siquirres where towels and a victory cocktail await. Drive back to your San Jose hotel (approx. two hours). Photo CD included.
Day 3 San Jose / Tortuguero

Morning pick-up at your San Jose hotel for the transfer to the local airport. Here you will board a charter plane (seat in plane) for a direct flight to Tortuguero. Fly over Braulio Carrillo National Park and the Atlantic lowlands (approximately 35 minutes). After breakfast at the hotel, depart with a local guide for a 3-hour boat tour into the Tortuguero National Park. Originally intended to protect a major nesting beach of the Atlantic green sea turtle, Tortuguero National Park now protects 51,870 acres, one of the last large areas of tropical rain forest in Central America. Eleven habitats are found in the park. Three species of monkeys (Spider, Howler, and White-faced), Three-toed sloths, and River otters are frequently seen along the natural inland waterways and canals. Caiman, iguanas, River turtles, Basilisk lizards, and Poison dart (Dendrobates) frogs inhabit the area, along with more than 320 species of birds including all 6 species of kingfishers found in the new world, 3 species of toucans, 8 species of parrots, and other neotropical species such as the Slaty-tailed trogon, White-collared manakin, Purple-throated fruitcrow, and White-fronted nunbird and many more species which we will have the opportunity to observe during this morning boat ride through the back water canals of Tortuguero National Park. Return for lunch at Tortuga Lodge. Afternoon at leisure. Dinner and overnight at Tortuga Lodge & Gardens.
Day 4 Tortuguero

CARIBBEAN CONSERVATION CORP. MUSEUM
Visit the museum founded by the Caribbean Conservation Corporation (CCC). The late Dr. Archie Carr began to study and tag the thousands of Atlantic Green Sea Turtles that every year, from June through October, come to Tortuguero Beach to lay their eggs. The study has continued without fail ever since, under the auspices of the CCC. It is the longest-running continuous study of its kind in the world, and it has had a profound effect on the community of Tortuguero.
TORTUGUERO VILLAGE TOURS (87TOL06)
Tour the village of Tortuguero with a local guide. Learn about the history of the village and it’s efforts to get their basic needs met such as running water, medical and dental care, garbage collection and management. Visit the local school (when in session) the Park headquarters, the general goods store and walk through down the paths lines with colorful Afro-Caribbean homes. Stop for a chat with the locals and learn about their way of life. Includes lunch at Miss Juney’s where the menu will most likely be rice and beans, chicken, fried bread fruit or patacones (fried green plantains), and natural fruit juices.

TURTLE MATING OBSERVATION
Escorted by the best Tortuguero Guides available, the visitor will go out into the ocean by boat and observe hundreds of Atlantic green sea turtles mating in the waters off the coast before the females venture to ashore to perform the most dangerous task of their lives. Reservations must be made in advance. Maximum of four participants. Operation of this tour is subject to the conditions of the ocean. July to Oct. only.
KAYAKING IN TORTUGUERO
Paddle on Tortuguero National Park creeks. We have kayaks available to access some of the most remote areas of the Park. Available year round. These agile vessels will allow you to go where motorboats cannot and where wildlife is most abundant.
Day 6 Tortuguero / San Jose

After breakfast, transfer across the river to the Tortuguero airstrip. Here you will board a charter plane (seat in plane) for the direct flight to San Jose (approximately 35-minute flight). Transfer from airport to the Sansa Desk at the International airport for your scheduled flight to Liberia. Upon arrival a hotel representative is waiting for you and provides transportation to the Resort where you will stay for the final 3 nights. Approximate driving time is 45 minutes.
