Overview
Stay four nights at the Casa Corcovado Jungle Lodge on the border of Corcovado National Park. Discover the Park, Drake Bay and Cao Island, where you will snorkel the pristine reefs of a marine preserve. Then, walk with a Naturalist Guide through the renowned Wilson Botanical Gardens at Las Cruces Station.
Detailed Itinerary
Morning transfer to the local airport for a scheduled flight to Palmar Sur (45 mins.). Upon arrival a taxi will be waiting to take you to Sierpe Dock. Board a boat to Drake Bay (1 hour). Overnight at Casa Corcovado, a 170-acre private reserve bordering Corcovado National Park and built by a US naturalist.
Full day visit to Corcovado National Park, one of the most biologically intense places on earth. Local guides are well versed about local flora and fauna. Corcovado National Park, spans over 100,000 acres of virgin and secondary rainforest. Trails begin along pristine beaches, wind through deep rainforest, and follow riverbeds to waterfalls and swimming holes. This is a full-day tour including a picnic lunch, transportation to and from the Lodge, and a guide. Boas, scarlet macaws, reptiles, and several species of monkeys are creatures you may see. Overnight at Casa Corcovado Lodge.
Full day at Drake Bay. A day trip to Cao Island is included today. Cao Island Biological Reserve, only 10 miles or 45 minutes from Drake, is a world apart from the mainland. The Diquis Indians once used this island as burial grounds, however, little is known about the pre-Colombian artifacts that you will come across on the tour. A morning hike will take you through the forest to lookout points and along rushing creeks. A guide will introduce local plant species and name any wildlife you encounter on your tour. In the afternoon, you will spend your time on the Island's beach. You will be able to snorkel at a nearby reef, where a protected area provides a heaven for manta rays, octopus, lobster and colorful tropical fish. Cao's clear blue, tropically warm water and coralline reefs are a snorkeler's paradise. Cao is a full day tour and includes guides, a picnic lunch, snorkeling equipment and transportation to and from the Lodge. Overnight at Casa Corcovado.
Day at leisure or participating in optional activities such as a full day of fishing on a 31-foot boat (available at additional cost). Overnight at Casa Corcovado.
After breakfast, depart by boat and taxi to Palmar Sur, where local land transportation will be waiting to take you on an approximately two-hour drive to Las Cruces Station. This Station is home to the Wilson Botanical Garden and features diverse plantings of tropical and subtropical ornamentals, representatives of unusual plant families and rare and endangered plants. Particularly well-represented are ferns, aroids, bromeliads, gingers, heliconias, marantas and palms. More than 1,000 genera in 212 plants families can be seen along trails that wind around palm-covered hillsides, through agave and lily beds, under rainforest canopy, through banana and heliconia groves, and to strategic overlooks. Overnight at Las Cruces Station, Tiskita Lodge, or similar.
Full day at Las Cruces Station. Today you will have a guided walk through Wilson Botanical Gardens. Overnight at Las Cruces Station.
Morning transfer to Golfito airstrip (2 hours) for your scheduled flight to San Jose (45 mins.). Upon arrival, a Costa Rica Adventure Vacation van and guide will be waiting to take you to your hotel. Overnight at Grano de Oro.
Transfer to the international airport arriving at least two hours prior to the departure time of your flight out of the country.
