Edging out into the Pacific Ocean in the southwest corner of Costa Rica, the Osa Peninsula encompasses lush primary Costa Rica rain forests and a complex system of freshwater and Costa Rica marine resources. The remote region has multiple protected areas including Corcovado and Piedras Blancas National Parks.
The untouched rainforest and the robust natural beauty of the Osa Peninsula make this region among the most beautiful areas in Costa Rica. The National Geographic Magazine declared Osa Peninsula ‘one of the most biologically intense places on earth’. The Osa Peninsula along with Drake Bay have today, become the premier eco-tourism destination in the county.
Encompassing the only remaining old growth wet forests on the Pacific coast of Central America, Corcovado National Park is the adventure of a lifetime!
With 13 major ecosystems including lowland rain forest, highland cloud forest, jolillo palm forest, and mangrove swamps, as well as costal marine and beach habitats, there is a good chance of spotting some of Costa Rica's shyest and most endangered inhabitants such as: Baird's Tapirs, Jaguars, Scarlet Macaws, Harpy Eagles, Red-backed squirrel monkeys and White-lipped Peccaries.
The terrain is known to be wet, remote, and rugged, although the trails are relatively good, and the camping areas near the ranger stations are very well managed. Enjoy a secluded walk down the beautiful Costa Rica beaches, lined with Coconut palms, and cool down by rinsing off under one of the many breathtaking waterfalls.
Corcovado is 103,000 acres (4,178 hectares, 161 square miles. That’s 122 times the size of Central Park NYC! A true explorer’s paradise- Corcovado is home to outstanding numbers of Costa Rica animals such as: monkeys, felines, sea turtles, frogs, snakes, crocodiles, lizards, butterflies and at least 10,000 other insects.
